Raised in Wellington, New Zealand, he earned a PhD in physics from the University of Manchester, focusing on early-universe inflation and noise characterization in radio interferometry. He contributed to instrumentation efforts for the South Pole Telescope and later taught science communication at the University of British Columbia. His essays have appeared in science and culture outlets, and his short fiction was a finalist for New Zealand's Sir Julius Vogel Award in 2019. He divides time between Vancouver and the Salish Sea, tinkers with analog synthesizers, and remains unreasonably loyal to spiral-bound lab notebooks.
