Elena Bélanger

Elena Bélanger is a Franco-Canadian journalist and biographer raised in Québec City and the Gaspé Peninsula. A graduate of Université Laval with further studies in environmental reporting, she spent a decade covering coastal communities for regional newspapers before turning to long-form nonfiction. Her work has appeared in literary magazines across Canada and New England and was shortlisted for a National Magazine Award in feature writing.

Bélanger is the author of the narrative profiles collection Stone Ferry and the coastal reportage The Salt Year. Known for her fieldwork-heavy research and ear for dockside vernacular, Elena Bélanger has led community oral history workshops from Matane to Provincetown. She lives in Halifax, where she teaches part-time and keeps a messy desk piled with tide charts and tape recorders.
