Chiara Moretti is an Italian novelist and translator whose work explores the seam where memory meets geography. Born in La Spezia in 1984, she studied comparative literature and historical cartography at the University of Bologna, then cataloged nautical charts for the Archivio di Stato di Genova before moving between Marseille and Trieste as a freelance translator.
Her debut mystery, Tideglass (2017), introduced her coastal noir sensibility and was shortlisted for the Premio Scerbanenco. She followed with Night of the Lantern (2020) and Grey Meridian (2022), both published in multiple languages. Her essays on maritime folklore and wayfinding have appeared in Il Venerdì di Repubblica and Nautilus Magazine.
Chiara Moretti lives between Venice and Rijeka, teaches a seminar on narrative cartography at Ca' Foscari University, and leads an annual research residency aboard a restored trabaccolo. When not writing, she hikes Ligurian ridge trails and restores brass instruments salvaged from decommissioned lighthouses.
