Raised in Dayton, Ohio, he studied journalism at Ohio University and spent a decade covering courts and public corruption for newspapers in Cleveland and Albany, earning statewide press awards for investigative reporting. He later worked in corporate investigations for a New York risk-management firm, experience that informs his fiction. Lawson lives in Beacon, New York, where he volunteers with a literacy nonprofit and teaches community workshops on narrative journalism. When not writing, he hikes the Hudson Highlands and restores vintage typewriters.
