Miranda Penrose is a biographer and essayist whose work explores the intersections of craft, memory, and hidden systems. Raised in coastal New England, she studied history and material culture at Brown University (B.A., 2005) and the Bard Graduate Center (M.A., 2008). She has served as a textile archivist for the Rhode Island Historical Society and as a research fellow with the Center for Cryptologic History. Penrose's essays have appeared in Selvedge, The Believer, and Public Books, and she has lectured at RISD and the Museum of the City of New York. She lives in Brooklyn, where she co-runs a community mending clinic and teaches narrative nonfiction.
